Feather Masks

Project Description: These dazzling masks are easy to make and can be instantly changed over and over again! Adorn them to look realistic like our feathered friends the birds or create a fashionable masquerade look in a snap!

Materials:
Westcott Brand® Kids NonStick 5” Blunt Tip Scissors with Microban® Protection (for ages 4 and up)
OR
Westcott Brand® Kids NonStick 5” Pointed Tip Scissors with Microban® Protection (for ages 6 and up)
Wire Cutters
Westcott Brand® Ruler
Color Duck® Brand Duct Tape
VELCRO® Brand Re-useable Customizable Masks
3/8” VELCRO® Brand Clear Hook and Loop Fastener Coins
5/8” VELCRO® Brand Clear Hook and Loop Fastener Coins
VELCRO® Brand Clear Hook and Loop Fastener Tape
Clear Acrylic Gems
Chenille Stems
Glitter in Assorted Colors

Instructions:

  1. To create the feathers, use wire cutters to cut the chenille stems into 2” long pieces.
  2. Sandwich the chenille stem pieces between two pieces of duct tape.
  3. Trim the pieces along their sides into tapered feather shapes.
  4. Cut fringe on the sides of the feathers at an angle and fluff the feathers up by separating the fringe with your fingers.
  5. Attach two 3/8” hook coins to the back of each feather.
  6. Attach 3/8” hook coins to the back of several flat clear acrylic flat back gems.
  7. Dip the adhesive side of several 5/8” hook coins into glitter of assorted colors.
  8. Embellish the blank mask with the feathers, gems and glittered coins.
  9. When inspiration strikes, easily remove and rearrange the embellishment pieces to suit your personal sense of style!
