Painting Basics - How to Transfer a Pattern
By Prudy Vannier
1005-3

The supplies required for transferring a pattern are:

  • Royal® light graphite paper for dark surfaces
  • Royal® dark graphite for light surfaces
  • Tracing paper
  • Pencil
  • Tape
  • Stylus

  1. Trace the pattern onto tracing paper.
  2. Place the tracing on the surface. Tape into place if necessary.
  3. Slide the appropriate color graphite paper under the tracing paper, shiny side down.
  4. Use the stylus to lightly (so that the surface isn’t marred) trace over the lines. Only trace the basic lines – no detail. Most patterns need to be base coated somewhat, and then the detail added over the dried basecoat.
