By Patty Cox
1006-1

Use letter-shaped clay cutters to create unique patterns in clay.

Main supplies:

  • ½ cup Elmer’s® Glue-All®
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup flour
  • Elmer’s® Mega 3D™ Washable Paint Pens – transparent colors: red, yellow, blue
  • Makin’s Clay® 1” letter clay cutters

Basic Supplies:

  • Wax paper
  • ½ cup measure
  • Rolling pin
  • Masking tape

Instructions:

  1. Make dough: Mix white glue, cornstarch and flour together. Knead dough well. Press dough into a flat disk. Place on a sheet of wax paper. Cover with another sheet of wax paper. Roll dough about 3/16” thick. Remove top sheet of wax paper.
  2. Using letter-shaped clay cutters, cut designs from clay. Allow clay tile to dry. Remove wax paper backing. Place clay tile back side up. Allow back to dry a little while longer.
  3. Stick masking tape on tile back, behind cut-out. Lay tile flat, right side up. Squeeze transparent 3D paint into cut out areas. Allow paint to dry.
  4. Optional: Tile can be painted with tempera or acrylic paint, glitter glue or left unpainted. Place finished tile in a window or rest against an open CD case.
